Description

So, this is a sketch that got way out of control today... It's a horribly cliché image, but I think every artist is allowed a cliché from time to time =p

I happened to be sharing my progress with a friend, showing him progress images, getting advice and such, and I thought it would be interesting to share the progress here.

This morning, I got an idea. Not a terribly original idea, but an idea. So I blocked it out in Photoshop (I don't often do a picture entirely in Photoshop, so this is a bit of a rarity for me): [link]

I started fleshing it out. Why is the BG beige? I don't really remember my reasoning. [link]

Fleshed it out some more: [link]

Decided I didn't like the colour of the background, so I did this quick paintbucket fill to try out different colour schemes, shared this and the previous with my friend, he liked the yellow background, I agreed. [link]

Proceed further with the yellow background. The change in color necessitated tweaking of the wings. Added some (sucky) clouds. : [link]

Decide the mountain/rocks were the wrong color, tweak them with the 'Levels' tool. : [link]

Paint some more, replaced the clouds with ones that didn't suck, and I was done :D

*edit - go to make a file suitable for prints here on DA, decide it needed still more tweaking, tweaked and re-uploaded.

PS. I made the full size version for download about the right size for desktop wallpaper use. It's a bit short, but it's close enough.

I /LOVE/ the way you made the light look like it was shining through a real membrane for the wings! So fascinating! And the mountains on the bottom right, love those too! And what a soothing pallet, it just makes me sigh. :3
